Sustainable coffee & homemade fika

We care!

At Stufvenäs, we cherish the natural beauty that surrounds us. We make wise choices for both environmental and social sustainability, from quality products that last over time to healthy and fair working conditions that create well-being and long-term stability.

Maintaining flexibility and realism

We acknowledge that sustainability sometimes involves balancing ideals with realistic needs. While we strive to adhere to our four S’s, there are times when we must make exceptions, such as with our coffee and wine. However, in those cases, it is important to choose products that give something else back, like a sense of well-being. This flexibility allows us to maintain our high standards while remaining pragmatic in our choices.

Quality & sustainability

Interior design with purpose and for the future

Our pursuit of sustainability is also reflected in our interior design choices. By selecting quality products from the local area, we not only strengthen the local economy but also ensure that every element of our environment reflects our values of quality and sustainability.

At Stufvenäs, we are committed to a future where sustainability is not an option, but a fundamental part of everything we do. We look forward to continuing our journey toward a more sustainable and responsible operation, and we welcome our guests and partners to join us on this exciting journey.

The Alto Siritinga farm in Minas Gerais is surrounded by lush soil, embraced by valleys and mountains, with a rich supply of water—perfect conditions for coffee cultivation. Here, Pierre Sanchez de Mattos works diligently to preserve the characteristic high-altitude climate, and today, 40 hectares of the farm are in full production.

Biodiversity

Stufvenäs Honey

We care about nature and our biodiversity. There is a shortage of pollinating insects in the Swedish environment. One-third of all the food we eat depends on pollination. Pollination results in more flowers and can help endangered plants survive. It also leads to larger harvests of fruit, vegetables, and berries—not only here with us but also for our neighbors and in the surrounding nature.

Today, half of the honey consumed in Sweden is imported. We can now offer our guests our own honey, with flavors from the various flowers, trees, and plants found in our beautiful surroundings. Stufvenäs Honey also holds great value beyond the taste experience; it funds the honeybees’ most important ecosystem service as they pollinate our crops and our wild nature. Therefore, it is important that we all care for the bees so that the number of bees and colonies in Sweden increases.

Secrets of the bee colony

Did you know this about bees?

A queen lays about 2,000 eggs a day during the summer. A beehive can contain up to 50,000 bees. One beehive yields approximately 40 kg of honey. A bee lives for about 60 days in the summer. Eventually, they cannot fly back to the hive because their wings have worn out. Winter bees live longer, but that is because they remain still and reduce their metabolism.

Bees can communicate with each other. Through the waggle dance, they can indicate the direction and distance of flowers worth visiting. A bee can fly 2–3 km from the hive to gather food and find its way home again. All bees in the hive have the same mother but can have different fathers. To gather enough nectar for one kilogram of honey, the bees visit 6–8 million flowers.

Authenticity in every bite

Made by Stufvenäs

To make it easier for our guests to identify products prepared from scratch with love and high-quality ingredients, we have created the “Made by Stufvenäs” label. This symbol stands for authenticity, craftsmanship, and the use of ingredients that reflect our dedication to quality and sustainability.

Near & Dear

Close by Stufvenäs

In line with our commitment to supporting the local community and reducing our environmental impact, we have created the “Close by Stufvenäs” label. This label is a proud declaration of our choice to prioritize products and ingredients from the local area, following our philosophy of the four S’s: Stufvenäs, Södermöre, Småland, and Sweden.

Tap water certified

Our choice of water

We serve certified tap water in our Conference, Spa & Restaurant facilities. We are taking a stand for a better environment by serving and drinking fresh, healthy, and locally produced tap water from our own well instead of bottled water.

No packaging means no waste, no transportation, and no emissions! Tap water certification is a national sustainability label for businesses that choose tap water instead of packaged water.

Environmental Work

Together for a better tomorrow

We are Green Key certified. Our ambition is to deliver a maximum positive guest experience with minimal negative environmental impact. We actively address environmental and sustainability issues through Green Key’s comprehensive criteria.

Below, you can see some examples of what we have done as part of the certification.

Green Key is an international eco-label within the tourism industry, present in over 60 countries. The label is managed internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), supported by, among others, UNEP and UNWTO. All establishments undergo regular audits to ensure compliance with the criteria.

Please visit www.greenkey.se for more information, or feel free to ask us directly if you wish to know more about our sustainable efforts.
